Course Description:

Aims

This module develops insight and critical understanding of strategic approaches to employee resourcing, talent management, and employee engagement in organisations in a changing business context. Drawing on contemporary theories, models and practices, it explores the relationship between employee and organisational performance and the strategies that support the development of high performance and high involvement work cultures.

Learning Outcomes

After completing the module the student should be able to:

  1. Define key concepts of strategic people management and describe how these can be understood in relation to business strategy, organisational structure, and the social, political and economic context of the organisation
  2. Recognise and address the competing business, legislative, ethical and social drivers for equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging, making recommendations for strategy and policy improvements in this area
  3. Critically appraise the theoretical underpinnings of high performance and high involvement work cultures and the factors that impact employee performance
