Course Description:

Aims

To provide a critical understanding of the academic research process understanding the differing techniques, strategies and methods used to undertake research.

To provide students with the opportunity to critically appraise methodological and theoretical approaches to research.

To provide students with the skills required to undertake a research project at postgraduate level.

Learning Outcomes

After completing the module the student should be able to:

1 Critically appraise, compare and interpret key theories, concepts and methodological issues related to research.

2 Critically explain and relate the nature and purpose of each stage in the research process and be able to justify options related to the preparation of a post-graduate research study.

3 Critically evaluate and identify appropriate resources in undertaking research.

4 Critically apply and propose appropriate research knowledge and techniques to each stage of the research process.
