Course Description:
Aims
1. To consider current controversies in international law pertaining to the use of force between states, within the context of technological advances and the growth in the significance of non-state actors.
2. To provide students with an understanding of legal limitations on methods and means of armed conflict.
3. To explore modern and emerging challenges to the law of armed conflict.
Learning Outcomes
After completing the module the student should be able to:
1 Critically assess current controversies in international law's regulation of the use of force
2 Critically discuss the legal and political difficulties of regulating conflict situations
3 Explain and critique the role of international organisations in enforcing international law pertaining to conflict and warfare
4 Make use for a range of both primary and secondary sources to investigate international law's regulation of the use of force and armed conflict
